The Department of Public Safety of the Maine State Police collates crime statistics for all counties in the state under it’s Uniform Crime Reporting (UCR) program. Its most recent crime data for York County is for 2017. In that year, York County recorded 267 violent crimes and 2,708 property crimes. Compared to 2013 crime numbers for the county, these figures represent a 20.7% dip in violent crime rate and a 37.7% reduction in property crime rate.
A breakdown of 2017 crime statistics for York County shows that the county recorded 1 murder, 72 rapes, 36 robberies, 158 aggravated assaults, 406 burglaries, 2,213 larcenies, and 89 motor vehicle thefts. The most recent five-year crime trend for the county indicates that all crimes except homicide recorded lower numbers in 2017 compared to 2013. Rape (2.7%), robbery (35.7%), aggravated assault (23.3%), burglary (57.4%), larceny (32.6%), and motor vehicle theft (19.1%) rates all went down. However, the homicide rate for the county in the same period remains unchanged.

The State Bureau of Identification (SBI), a division of the Maine State Police, provides criminal history records for York County and the rest of the state via its InforME platform. InforME subscribers pay $21 per background check while the fee for non-subscribers is $31. Notarized criminal history reports cost an additional fee of $10.00 per copy. InforME subscribers can log in to submit requests for background checks while non-subscribers must use the credit card option to submit their requests.

Vital Records
Copies of York County divorce records are provided by the Vital Records Office of the Department of Health and Human Services. The office provides divorce records from 1892 to the present. Certified copies of the divorce records cost $15 each while the fee for each non-certified copy is $10. Cash and check are accepted for walk-in requests. To request a divorce record in person, visit:

The office opens to the public from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., Monday through Friday. To submit a request by mail, start by downloading and completing the Vital Records application form. Enclose a check or money order for the required fee, a copy of a valid photo ID, and a self-addressed stamped envelope. Send this request to the address above.
York County marriage, birth and death records are also provided by the Vital Records Office. Available records date back to January 1st, 1892. Certified and non-certified copies of these records also cost $15 and $10 respectively. The same requirements for requesting a Divorce Record apply to requesting marriage, birth and death records.
