- All visitors at the facility must be registered
- Visitors must also provide a valid government-issued photo ID for registration and entrance into the facility.

What are Somerset County Vital Records?
The Maine Division of Public Health Systems (MDPHS) is responsible for maintaining vital records for the state. Maine is a closed record state, meaning that only authorized individuals may order vital records of birth, deaths, marriages, and divorces in Somerset County. Only records from January 1923 are maintained at the department, but inquirers may obtain records prior to that time from the municipal office and district court at Somerset county.

The inquirer shall provide the following information:
- The Inquirer must list the names of participants as they were at the time the divorce was granted and recorded

Divorce Records prior to 1923 and actual divorce decrees may be obtained from the Somerset District Court where the divorce was granted. The department issues certified and uncertified copies of the records. The certified copies cost $15.00 and $6.00 for each additional copy. Non-certified copies cost $10.00 and are usually stamped “not for legal purposes.” Written requests must be mailed alongside a payment check or money order, a copy of the inquirer’s photo ID and a self-addressed, stamped envelope with the filled and completed request application form. The check should be made payable to: "Treasurer - State of Maine.”
According to state laws, birth records less than 75 years old, marriage records less than 50 years old, and death records less than 25 years old are private and restricted records. To obtain copies of these records, an inquirer must be “authorized” to do so.
